Abstraction vs Traditional art

This might be a windy post but here goes.  In todays art you can really call what you do almost anything.  Even make up a name to get more people to ohh and ahh.  I figure you call it what it is.
Traditional art is what everyone thinks of; meaning it is what it is.  ie a still life is a still life, landscape and figural they are recognizable. To me, what makes a work abstract is what we all
should know that exists in traditional art and make purposeful marks.  It  takes me 2 to 3 times
longer to do abstract than any scene I have every painted.  I think about color, edges, is my work
going to be contained or off the page.  I think underpainting, mark making transparency and opaqueness.  Then is when I can step up to the painting and start to paint with all this in mind.
And the really exciting aspect of this is that it can all change with a random stroke or two colors
crossing that opens up enormous possiblities.  For me there is no vs to art.  It's experience and
putting in the work.  Showing up to the canvas every day just to see it and then to delve in.  I made a statement in a FB post that it was like being on Mr Toad's Wild Ride and for me this is what
abstract has done for me.  This is my dream job.   ENJOY!!!!!!!!
