15 Days til Christmas

As a child there is no greater anticipation than Christmas day.  We are dazzled by gifts and lights and
festivities.  I just love the Christmas music.  All so uplifting.

Now as an adult I miss that wonder that Christmas offered and now have filled it with art.  I can enjoy art 365 days a year and never tire of seeing it, talking about it and most of all being able to
go to the easel and do it.

I watch Brian Rutenbergs' videos on youtube and they are a constant source of inspiration and really
an artist to look up to. I hope you take the time to see some of his videos if you are an artist to be inspired.  His best advise is he goes to the studio to paint, somedays good somedays not so good but
always going there and showing up to do the work.  That is the gift I open every day like Christmas
is the ability to go to the studio and do the work.

Not much will go on here til the first.  I did go to a gallery show that I am in and was surprised by
several sales and I will be posting what sold and what's new.

Enjoy your holiday, be merry and filled with joy and of course in all things give thanks.

TGIF

ahh the weekend.  What does that mean for an artist?  Mostly nothing.  It's all about the work and showing up.  Lots of new things brewing for me on the horizon.  ENJOY!!!!

Abstraction vs Traditional art

This might be a windy post but here goes.  In todays art you can really call what you do almost anything.  Even make up a name to get more people to ohh and ahh.  I figure you call it what it is.
Traditional art is what everyone thinks of; meaning it is what it is.  ie a still life is a still life, landscape and figural they are recognizable. To me, what makes a work abstract is what we all
should know that exists in traditional art and make purposeful marks.  It  takes me 2 to 3 times
longer to do abstract than any scene I have every painted.  I think about color, edges, is my work
going to be contained or off the page.  I think underpainting, mark making transparency and opaqueness.  Then is when I can step up to the painting and start to paint with all this in mind.
And the really exciting aspect of this is that it can all change with a random stroke or two colors
crossing that opens up enormous possiblities.  For me there is no vs to art.  It's experience and
putting in the work.  Showing up to the canvas every day just to see it and then to delve in.  I made a statement in a FB post that it was like being on Mr Toad's Wild Ride and for me this is what
abstract has done for me.  This is my dream job.   ENJOY!!!!!!!!

Its more Red again............

When I am feeling especially strong and assured I bring out the red and have at it.  This is the way this painting went.  It was finished after "All the Nuances of Love" and I needed to use up the reds
I made.  This is the outcome.   ENJOY!!!!!!!!

Tuesday 12-1

OMG  December is here already.  When you are old dates fly by and when you are young they drag.

Today's piece was influenced by the new sci fi show the Expanse.  Love the space shows but would
never go there.  I really think though that space has infinite beauty we as planet earth humans may
never get to see.    ENJOY!!!!!!!
